The Survival Of The Record Store

If you think you know Hendrix, you may be shocked to learn that there's an impressive amount of Hendrix material yet to appear on the market. That's because the singer-songwriter, guitarist and vocalist who virtually single-handedly developed psychedelic rock in the 1960s was obsessed with jamming in the studio.

Amazing Grace

Greetings from Asheville, where good music is always found on the turntable, in the CD player, or in the MP3 player. Today's Classic Album Review takes a turn for the Bluegrass, as it's a look back at the Ricky Skaggs release, Bluegrass Rules! Released collaborative effort on Rounder and Ricky's own Skaggs Family Records in October, 1997, it was a return to roots for Ricky Skaggs, who had found success in the Bluegrass field in the 1970′s, before turning to mainstream Country in the 1980′s.

Arts and Entertainment:Music from EzineArticles.com

Some people watch the music video of their preferred hip hop artist on TV more than three times per week. Some folks watch it more since they want to learn the hip hop artist's dance moves. They play the music video continuously just to get the very first five minutes of dance movements. Without having to endure the pause and play technique, it is possible to go to your local gym and join the hip hop dance courses. Hip hop dance classes are typically the most popular dance and exercise class with young adults plus some oldies as well.

¡Feliz Día De Los Muertos, y’all! As some of you may recall, a couple of weeks ago David and I attended the Día De Los Muertos celebration at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery here in LA but today is the actual Day of the Dead. Each year, folks hold a traditional Día De Los Muertos celebration on Olvera Street in downtown LA (the oldest street in Los Angeles) and each year, I try to attend the celebration. Last night, David and I made our way out to Olvera St. to enjoy the parade, the prayers & blessings, the face painting and the camaraderie that comes with Day of the Dead. Last night was my third Day of the Dead fest on Olvera street and it was truly one of the best.

I am always in awe of this traditional celebration. I love that so many children are allowed to participate … it’s such a beautiful celebration. David and I always have a great time on Olvera St. and last night was no exception. It’s really something to see so many people come together for this ancient traditional celebration. I’m thinking that we may have to celebrate Día De Los Muertos next year in Mexico ;) Now that would be amazingly cool.

Tonight, Darion and I are getting together for a LONG overdue dinner hang out and then later on, I’m seeing Filter live in concert at The Viper Room. I hope your Hump Day is a good one. Happy Wednesday ;D

They have matured both lyrically and musically with grace through their first album, "Stayin' After Class" released in 2004. Some thought they weren't tough enough for the rock and roll music scene and called them liars.

The Importance of Music in the Movies

As a full time performing Harp-guitarist for the past forty years, I have had the opportunity to explore the many potentialities of creating music on this wonderful, diverse and under-appreciated instrument. In just the past few years, there has been an enormous resurgence in interest in the harp-guitar, and there are now many new players performing on the instrument, offering a cornucopia of diverse styles and approaches. It is with this heightened awareness of the harp-guitar in mind that I feel impelled to share much of what I have learned over the span of my harp-guitar career, particularly in the area of string activation technique.

EXCLUSIVE: Why New Mom Jewel Loves Being a Hermit

She’s a multiplatinum-selling singer/songwriter, but the title Jewel is proudest of these days is Mommy. The 37-year-old musician welcomed 3-month-old son Kase Townes Murray with professional bull-riding champion husband Ty Murray on July 11 and it’s changed the 37-year-old musician in ways she never imagined. “I enjoy being home,” she told iVillage recently. “I never knew. I traveled since I was seven years old. I’ve been on the road and in bands since I was so young and touring as a professional musician since I was 18. I’ve never been in one spot for more than three weeks, probably, in my entire life.”

Best Elvis Songs For Your Wedding or Any Romantic Evening

Musicians and singers collectively deliver dramatic art forms in opera, which is supported by text and musical scores, performed live under theatrical settings. Many opera concepts are used in movies because opera music is highly emotional, and it helps to convey a plot with feeling to listeners. Sometimes, opera songs may not have words which are clear to the listeners, but the combination of story and music helps to convey the storyline.

Planning a Wedding Without a Wedding Planner

Many young people, who love music, believe they have what it takes to become a successful disc jockey (DJ). Once they start to look further into how to become a DJ, there is more to it than they first thought. Anyone can play music if they have the equipment, but not everyone can charm and attract the crowds.

Expect The Unexpected Shock Value

The music industry is changing. Technology has taken the old ways of sharing and distributing music and given them a good shake, and this means that live performances, gigs and music festivals are more important than ever. It's becoming increasingly difficult to make money from recordings, and that means that bands are relying on touring to help them make a living.

The very first thing to state is that this doesn't apply to every brand as the quality of some suppliers is still below par. Like numerous industries, as one company raises the bar and begins to produce superb quality at a reasonable price, it's very tough for competing organisations to not follow suit. With factories in the Far East mass-making hardware for the guitar such as: guitar pickups, tuners, bridges and electrics at very cheap prices, this without doubt impacts the high street price.

Soap Dish: Web Series Venice: The Series Must See!

It is Soap Dish time and this week I am dishing on a show you have to check out, the web series “Venice: The Series.” Yep it is online and one of my favorite soaps to date. I have been a fan of the web series ‘Venice: The Series” since it began in November of 2009. It is a show about an openly gay single woman played by the show creator and veteran soap opera actress Crystal Chappell. It was her “labor of love” as she calls it and you can tell every time you watch it. The show was inspirited by the popularity of the same-sex couple Otalia of which Crystal played Olivia on Guiding Light. When the show was cancelled “Venice: The Series” was born. GL fans will not see Natalia and Olivia so don’t get excited. Although Otalia inspired the show it follows Chappell’s character who is a designer and lives in Venice Beach. However fans of any soap or soap couple can get excited about this show because not only is it great writing with great storylines, it also stars some of daytimes current and former stars. When Crystal decided to move forward with the show, [...]

Misha B Gives Prince A Chance On X Factor UK

It was "Rock Week" on X Factor UK so we were really wondering what Misha B was going to surprise us with this week.
She still stayed true to herself and performed Prince's Purple Rain for the Live Show even though Rock isn't exactly her "natural style."
It wasn't her best performance, but she still pulled it [...]

This is lovely!

Even though she's been told that she's "quiet" during the competition, Sophie Habibis performed a really nice rendition of Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer on the X Factor UK live show during "Rock Week."

Sophie siad she wanted to "show people who I reall am," and trust us, hon, we think you did just that.

Really pretty, Sophie.

John Mayer was forced to postpone the release of his latest album, Born and Raised, after discovering a granuloma above his vocal cords, and took this blog yesterday to announce that he successfully underwent surgery to take care of the issue, and is now on complete vocal rest for the next month - and possibly longer!

He writes:

Hey all…

I wanted to give you an update on the granuloma just above my vocal cord. I had surgery this afternoon to remove it and am now on complete vocal rest for a month or more. It’s been a very long process in waiting to see if time was an alternative to surgery, but even given two weeks’ voice rest (along with many other approaches), there was no change for the better.

I should be frustrated but I can’t seem to stop thinking about beautiful things… I never thought I’d be wishing I could do what I love again; I stay in at night, picking guitar parts off of records and dreaming of playing on the big stage. The only difference between now and when I was 18 is that now I have this beautiful, meaningful record waiting for me when I can sing it.

Until then, I’m taking off. Going to travel the country, look and listen.

sincere love

JM

P.S. thanks to those who sent birthday wishes, especially those who contributed to the Happy Birthday video… I streamed it to TV and let it run like a music playlist for the whole 30 minutes on my birthday. You’re the best.

Well, we have to give him credit for maintaining such a positive attitude during this setback!

But ultimately, we're happy to know that he understands that it's exactly just what it is - a setback - and with a little patience and R & R, he'll be back on his game and ready to release the new album!

Take care of yourself, John!

Music is all about personal expression. Therefore, a musician's instrument should be a reflection of his or her personal style. You create great-sounding music, you should do it on a great-looking instrument. Don't let your hum-drum, monochrome guitar bring you down, get some flair and get creative! A great way to spruce up your guitar yourself is to get your hands on some stylish stickers to personalize your guitar yourself.

Encouraging Teamwork Through Music

J-Rock, for the uninformed, has been a global phenomenon in the new millennium. It is short for "Japanese Rock", an evolution of Western punk, rock, and metal music in Japan - that is tied up to the "Visual Kei movement", a fashion movement based on a costume play (cosplay) of different Japanese animation series.

Beginner Guitar Lessons Online The Basics Things You Should Know When You Start Playing The Guitar

"The Ballad of Easy Rider," performed by Roger McGuinn, was the theme song of the 1969 classic film. Later recorded by the Byrds, the song began as a few lines scrawled on a napkin by Bob Dylan and given to the film's stars, Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper. "Give this to McGuinn," Dylan told the pair. "He'll know what to do with it." McGuinn composed the music and finished the lyrics, creating one of the most beloved songs in his catalog.

Yes, there are indeed far too many smart phones running amok these days, and I really do hate to be jumping up onto the Apple bandwagon (it's a cart, really), but I have to say that Apple's iPhone 4 is by far the best product out at the moment. I've tried a few of the Android models but the quality varies so much from model to model that you don't really know what you're getting.
